Our History

Bilberry Creek Baptist Church began its ministry in the Orleans community on September 30, 1984. Our first Sunday evening worship services were held at Dunning Foubert School. In the spring of 1985, Rev. Don Collar and his family were called to Orleans to provide pastoral leadership for the fledgling congregation. Upon his arrival, Bilberry Creek Baptist Church provided Sunday morning worship opportunities at Our Lady of Wisdom School.

One of our first go
als as a very new church was to find land on which to build. The Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec purchased land for us on Innes Road, now all covered with housing. By means of a complicated land swap, we became owners of our present land. This property paid for by the CBOQ comprises roughly 2.5 acres. Our present building was conceived on several premises: it had to hold 200 for worship; it must be multi-functional and it must be cost effective. The Lord provided all three and a most beautiful building!  The modules now being used as classroomswere generously donated by churches in the Ottawa Baptist Association .

During the early years of ministry, Bilberry not only acquired land but drew together a solid core of committed Christians who had a vision for sharing Christ with the Orleans community.

In the spring of 1994 Bilberry moved from its temporary location at Our Lady of Wisdom to its newly erected facility at 480 Charlemagne.

In the spring of 1998 in partnership with Eglise Evangelique d'Orleans, a ministry to the Francophone community was established. We are grateful to Rev. George Wagner and Rev. Frankie Narcisse for their vision for this ministry.

In the summer of 2008, we called Pastor Dean Noakes to help us minister to our youth and young families. In November 2011, Pastor Noakes became pastor of Pleasant Park Baptist Church in Ottawa.

With a growing congregation and the needs of both the French and English congregations, we started our Phase 2 Expansion in the summer of 2009. We had a service of dedication on April 11, 2010 .
